(Click to change slides.) I’m getting a new cat! Context: My mom’s (vet) clinic has a mouse problem. They find mouse droppings almost daily and have seen them a few times. It’s been speculated that they’re hiding in the walls. Context 2: We had 2 office cats. Had. Muffy recently was put to sleep. Fluffy (unrelated names, Muffy came to us as Muffy) is 23 and still agile, but she can’t exactly catch anything. That leads us here. We were offered this brown tabby cat to come scare-slash-catch the mice, and just to be a new clinic cat. I came up with a bunch of names (Rowan, Ash, Bennett) but we liked Oliver the best so far. So yeah! Oliver is getting picked up tomorrow. Updates coming! :D
Update 1: I met Oliver for the first time today! He’s super friendly, but does need his space if you pet him for too long. He’s pretty outgoing and wants to eat the birds, so he’s confined to the cat room right now. He’s amazing! Handsome boi :) He definitely looks like he has some Maine Coon in him. And he loves churu. More updates will come! Update 2: He’s learning to hunt mice by chasing toy mice around the floor. He also really, really wants to eat our birds. He’s obsessed with sniffing in all the places where we find mouse droppings, so we think he knows where they are :D He was getting bored of the “chasing practice mice” bit yesterday so I’ve been rewarding him with churu when he chases them. More updates will come. Update 3: We’ve been letting him out at night! He saw a mouse run past him once and now he’s hyper-focused on the mouse holes. He’s caught 8 mice so far over the last week! He’s doing a great job (and none of the birds have been eaten.) :D Might update more but probably not.
