So the Amazon Cinderella movie is insanely underrated I just watched it, it's super good. Go watch it! SPOILERS/SONG EXPLAINED: You know the Cinderella story but this is a cool feminist remake. The stepmother is singing here (idina menzel, elsa) and she's talking about how when she was little she used to want to play piano professionally but she was frowned upon for being a strong independent woman so she's telling this to Cinderella (camila cabello) Another conflict in the story is the royal family. the king is controlling and likes boys better than girls. so the queen used to like him, so they married, but now he just shushes her all the time and ignores her suggestions. the prince charming (prince robert) doesn't even want to be king, he just wants to marry Cinderella (whose name is just Ella). Who will be king next? The prince's sister, Princess Gwen of course. She always makes good suggestions about the economy anyway. To Ella: she wants to be a dressmaker and a businesswoman, but no independent women are allowed. This song is so sad. EXPLANATION TO TIE IT TOGETHER: (is anyone still reading comment 'im still reading #ok' The stepmother tells Ella to 'bury it' to bury her dreams and the world doesn't need another HER, as in the stepmother who gave up her piano dreams. The only way out is to marry it and the queen sings this part. The shadow of doubt part is sung by Princess Gwen because she will never be King even though pretty much everyone want her to be except for the stupid King.
