due to shup's kind being a bit... barbaric they worshipped the aethers stone due to its power, and with shup being on the death row for "witchcraft" the stone had been driven into his chest as a sacrifice, causing its powers to immediately take effect. shup had burned his home world down and fled, leading him to meet Kristan. among others
