Chapter 3 Me and Nora, we tied, just the thing I was afraid of. We haven’t really, ever spoken to each other. “Good job,” says Nora, as she holds out her hand to me, “we are going to have such great fun together!” “Fun?!” I say, I almost yell as I decline the handshake. “Well, yeah, we are going to Silverwood!” The thought of Silverwood makes my heart pound. “I love Silverwood, but I’d rather stay home than be with Nora.” When I got home, I told my mother that I didn’t want to go with Nora, but my mother insisted that I’d go. So, I got my clothes packed and went to Willow School. At school my friends all hugged me bye, “See you in a couple of days!” Suzy said. “I’ll write to you!” cried one of my friends named Victoria. “Bye bestie!” called Sarah, as she hugged me. “Don’t stay away too long!” Teased Jess. After all the hugs and goodbyes, I hurried onto the bus, got buckled, and off we went, to Silverwood. Sitting with Nora in my seat I always sit in, I try to amuse myself, playing with my fingers, thinking about Silverwood, and all sorts of thoughts things rush through my head. “I wish I didn’t have to sit with Nora.” I say in my thoughts. “How long until we reach Silverwood?” some kid asks the bus driver, (whose name is Larry). “Well, can’t tell for sure, but we should be there soon.” “I hope so.” I mumble. “Let’s just be patient.” says Nora smiling. She hasn’t said almost anything while on the bus, “what has she been doing? Isn’t she bored?” I wonder. I haven’t even said a word to Nora on the bus. Hours passed and we didn’t arrive at Silverwood, I live in Boise, so the ride was long. That’s when I asked Nora a question, “Nora, what’s church?” “Churches are places where we can hear the word of God.” Replied Nora. “Oh, can you describe it?” I questioned. “Well, there are lots of benches, called pews, and a pulpit, kind of like a tall desk, and there’s always a piano, for singing hymns!” Told Nora. “Hymns? What are those?” I ask. “Hymns are songs about Jesus, how he helps us, and lots more!” Answered Nora. “Well, I certainly am interested!” I replied. “Welcome to Silverwood!” Shouted the bus driver. I really didn’t pay much attention to Silverwood, while talking with Nora. “Yay! I am so exited!” I screamed. All the kids rushed out of the bus, and Larry had to tell them to stay together, but I of course do not do that childish thing, I walk slowly and stay with the group. We all give our tickets to a Silverwood worker, go through the tunnel, and hurry to go on rides! We see a lot of shops, and I buy some things with my money. I am practically rich too, because my dad’s a lawyer, and my mom’s a nurse. But Nora didn’t get anything, so I am guessing she’s not rich. After, we walked around and spied a roller coaster, Nora saw it too, so we asked the school tourist if we could ride it, and she said yes! Tremors was the name of it, and I was excited! But I had to go with Nora, “I would want to go with Sarah, but she isn’t here. I run towards the roller coasters “Tunnel” and get in line. After a long while of waiting, we finally were in line to get onto the roller coaster. As I slide into the coaster’s seats, I feel a slight fluttering in my stomach, “Butterflies again?” I say in my mind as I sigh. Next thing I knew, the ride had started. Going up I am nervous, struggling to breathe I almost screamed, though the Scary part hasn’t even started. Up, we went to the very top, this roller coaster was 100ft high! Reaching the top, I inhaled a long deep breath, and down we went! Next thing I know I’m screaming my head off! I try to stop, but I can’t! It’s so fast and it’s making it hard to breathe! Going down in the ground I look at Nora, and she’s trying to close her eyes, and she’s screaming too! I don’t think I ever had such a fun time with Nora! But we’re not friends… we can’t be friends… we’re not alike.
