We have recently lost contact with a mining outpost near [REDACTED]. Camera feed suggests the Blood Fungus has completely taken over the outpost. As such, the government ordered the complete destruction of said outpost. That is exactly what happened, and any aircraft attempting to leave were shot out of the... well, not sky, but they were destroyed too.
