It seems like you've been in the jet for hours. Face pressed against the cold glass, staring out across the vast expanse of clouds below- searching for what might be your last glance at home. The plane touches down, a lone runway in a sea of fog. Though you've never been on a plane before, there's something unsettling about this place. There's no terminal, no building to house the passengers entering and exiting the craft. Only one structure remains as far as the eye can see, a derelict air traffic control tower reaching into the sky as though it were the limb of a buried giant calling for help. The silence is oppressive. You are led off the runway, through the marshy squelching moss and tall reeds. The horizon stretches out before you. Infinity. The empty white of the sky, unnervingly peaceful, pale as death itself. And the small, dense vegetation that coats the ground, made even more detailed when compared to the blankness above, seemingly writhing like it was one conscious thing. With all the fog, it is difficult to tell where land ends and sky begins. Suddenly your paws hit dry ground, and the fog swirls away before you to reveal a set of cameras, lights, chairs, and the interviewer staring at you with a beaming smile. She is unfamiliar to you, but quickly introduces herself as Cinere, Imperium's niece, happy to make her debut to the capitol with such an honored and prized role. Staring into her eyes, you notice a hungry gleam. As you wait for your turn, the fog slowly thins, revealing distant buildings wrought of iron and concrete, like forgotten remnants of a child's building set. Their jagged silhouettes are so ruined and ill maintained that they almost appear to defy gravity itself, threating to lurch upwards into the bright void above. And yet, the bustling Capitol employees seem to pay them no heed. Your name is called. Cinere's eyes meet yours.
