Chapter 3 // Sal Sal woke up in an unfamiliar place, everything ached, especially her leg. She struggled to sit up, and fell back onto the ground which she was laying on. Mal rushed over to her, “Sal!” She said, “I thought you were seriously hurt!“ “I-I’m fine, but ermm, where are we?” She asked, looking around at the wooden box. “This is Blake and Fay’s base, they offered to let us stay after they found us in the clearing,” she replied, “Blake had to carry you back.” “Ahh, you’re awake!” Fay said with a smile, “Had to wrap your leg up in string and leaves. It seems… bad, you’re gonna want to be careful with it.” “Thanks.” She said, as Mal helped her sit up. “What would you do without me,” Mal joked, trying to lighten the mood. “Can you remember anything that happened?” Blake asked, concerned. “Not a lot, there was something, humanoid, I think, too fast to be a mob though,” she said. “Well, do you have a base of some sort? We could probably get you back there if you do!” Fay said, a smile on their face. “We do, sort of? It’s just a dirt hut, not too far away, near that mountain with the waterfall.” “I don’t think she can walk,” Mal said, “maybe I can make some sort of pair of crutches, that can help you walk?” “Thank you, maybe we can just stay here until they’re done?” Mal said. “That’s a great idea,” Fay said with a smile. “Alright then, that’s settled, you guys can stay with us until we finish the crutches!” Blake said. “Thank you, we really appreciate it,” Sal replied with a smile. Sal looked around the inky black darkness that threatened to consume her, her heartbeat rising quickly and her breathing quickened. “Hello?” she screamed into the silence. “You’re not supposed to be here,” a voice replied after a long while. She woke up with a start, “it was just a dream. Just a dream. Just a dream...” she repeated to herself over and over again, hugging her legs against her chest. There was no one else inside the base and she was alone.
