I've seen a lot of people calling misinformed therians and otherkin fake and wondering if they're fake when they're actually mistaken, and I made this project to tell people the difference between them. Fake: deliberately pretending to be a therian/otherkin, saying you're a therian/otherkin when you know you're not. They have to know the (or a) definition of therianthropy/otherkinity, know they aren't it, but decide to say they are anyway. Not thinking you're a therian/otherkin when you're not, not having the wrong definition of therianthropy/otherkinity, not doing quads, wearing masks and tails and doing vocals and not being a therian not doing all those things and not saying if you're a therian/otherkin or not, and not making quads/gear/vocals/tips videos but not educational videos or things about the definition of therianthropy/otherkinity. Please don't fake therianthropy/otherkinity, but you can of course still do quads, vocals and wear gear (but don't call it "therian gear", call them stuff like cat masks, tails, etc.) and not be a therian, or become otherlink. Mistaken: thinking that you're a therian/otherkin when you're not, but knowing the definition. This is completely fine, and shows that you're learning more about yourself when you realise you're mistaken. It's different than being fake because faking means you know that you're not a therian/otherkin but saying that you are, whereas mistaken means you truly thought you were but weren't. Misinformed: truly thinking you're a therian/otherkin, but having the wrong information. This is different from faking because fakers know they're faking but misinformed therians/otherkin don't. I'd recommend being nice to misinformed therians/otherkin and explaining that therianthropy is an experience and is entirely involuntary, and you can still do quads, wear gear and do vocals if they're not a therian- it's never nice to have people yelling at you for being fake when you didn't know you were wrong, and makes you want to listen to them less. Common misinformation is therianthropy/otherkinity being a choice, a connection, having shifts, having an animal past life, or doing quads, wearing gear and sometimes doing vocals. It's fine to be misinformed, and you might still be a therian or alterhuman, just make sure to do your research next time. Definitions of therianthropy, otherkinity and otherlink: Therianthropy: involuntarily identifying as a real, non-human animal due to involuntary non-human experiences like instincts, reactions and behaviours. Otherkin: involuntarily identifying as a non-human creature, concept, object, plant, song, planet, place etc. and/or a fictional character, fictional creature, fictional concept, fictional planet, fictional plant, fictional object, fictional place, etc. Otherlink: voluntarily becoming something similar to a therian/otherkin, for any reason.
