Chapter 1 // Sal Sal woke up surrounded by 9 other people, there was only 1 person she knew though, Mal, her sister was sitng nearby, seemingly confused and disoriented. Sal looked around, seeing the other people had also started to wake up, she almost didn’t recognise Mal, she looked so different, she had strange horns on her head and smoke seemed to radiate from her. Sal got up and rushed over to where her sister was, the closer she got, it seemed hotter. Her sister seemed to shrink away from her when she went near her, “Mal, it’s me!” She said to her. “Sal! You look… Different?” She replied. “What?” She questioned. “Well, you have this weird fish tail and gills!” She exclaimed. “ARGHH!” She screamed, looking at her new tail, “I don’t like it! I don’t like it!” “It’s not so bad, you seem alright?” Her sister replied. “You look, kinda like a blaze?” She said. “A blaze?! I hate blazes they’re just so annoying!!!” Her sister yelled. As the two girls were exclaiming at their new features, the others were also noticing their strange appearances. “Alright, but how’d we get here?” She asked her sister. “I’m not sure,” Mal replied. Sal felt into her pockets and felt a little book. It had pages with detailed sketches of what seemed like the same things that she and the others had become. She fished through her book, ‘Merling’ it read, clearly a form of mer-person who could survive upon land, and as she had thought her sister was a Blazeborn. As the different people found themselves in the book, someone stepped forward. He was short and had startlingly bright eyes. “I think we should probably get organised if we want to survive here,” he said, “Why don’t we go round and tell everyone our names, new… ‘features…’ and general stuff like that, okay?” “I’ll start!” Someone else said, stepping forward, “Hello, I’m CakeLake but you can call me Blake. Seems I’m of ‘Feline’ origin now. I’m non-binary and I use they/them pronouns!” They said, next was a tall girl. “Hello, I’m M4pleL3af but y’all can call me Trinity, I’m a transgender girl using she/her pronouns and it seems like I’m an Arachnid,” she said. “Hello, I’m PartyStart but everyone calls me Andy. I’m a phantom, as you can see by my transparent state but I can go fully invisible. I’m a Demiboy using he/they pronouns,” he said, stepping forward. “Hiya, I’m RetroVibes but people who know me call me Fay, Im a fox at the moment and I’m Agender using they/them pronouns.” Mal got up, “I’m Transmal, but just call me Mal, it’s easier, seems that I’m blazeborn, I’m also a transgender female who uses she/her pronouns,” she said smiling at Trinity. “Hiya everyone, I’m BlissfulMelody but everyone just calls me James, I’m a Cis male, I use he/him pronouns, and it seems that I’m an avian, with my little sparrow wings.” He said, flapping his wings a little. “Sup everyone, I’m MorningDreams but y’all can just call me Gully. I’m pangender and you can just use any and all pronouns for me, I really don’t care! Seems I’m like Starborne.” He said, she smiled at everyone. “I’m JoyfulGlory, but almost everyone calls me Hazel! I use she/Fae pronouns and I’m a demigirl, and it seems I’m a slime for now.” “Greetings everyone, I’m Dreamology, but you can just call me Dani,” the guy who had spoken at first said, “I’m a Cis male and I use he/him pronouns. It seems I’m an elyrtian, as you can see by my wings!” He said, flapping his colourful wings on his back. Everyone looked at Sal. “I-I’m Sal, I’m a Cis female and I use she/her pronouns. I guess I’m a merling,” she said, swinging her scaly tail back and forth and flapping her gills, she didn’t trust anyone there, except Mal. “Now that everyone is introduced we need to figure out what’s going on-“ he said but was cut off as an ominous voice rang out along the wind. It was cold, sharp and it held one clear message. “Survive at all costs”
