Transcript: Okay. Does this sound like a fight to you? Three bullies corner a 16-year-old in a bathroom. These bullies have a history of harassing this 16-year-old. And the 16-year-old, who most likely felt threatened, reacted to this confrontation by standing up for themselves and splashed water onto the bullies. The bullies then beat up the 16-year-old and knocked them on their feet, causing them to bash their head against the floor and blackout while the bullies continued to attack until a teacher broke it up. We'd all say that doesn't sound like a fight. That sounds like a provocation as an excuse for a three on one assault. But what if the 16-year-old dies a day later after feeling nauseous and dizzy, likely from the head injury? We would all say this loss of life is terrible and we condemn bullying. But the second that some of y'all find out that the victim is trans and this incident could be considered an anti-trans hate crime. All of that condemning bullying talk goes out the window. Now we're finding justification for bullying, possibly fueled by hateful rhetoric that ended the life of an innocent student. Because I guess 'protect children' only extends to the bullies who endangered their queer classmates lives. Justice for Nex Benedict.
