(Warning: Super Lore Heavy Oneshot, proceed only if you want the ending of Of Ash and Dust to be completely ruined. You have been warned. Oh, and a less important warning- I only spent 15 mins on this thing, so its doubtlessly strife with spelling mistakes) Scroll slowly, so you don’t have the end of the oneshot spoiled lol (A little bit more) Devryne let out a soft sigh, closing his eyes- yet no matter how hard he tried to block everything out, his mind was a chaotic mess of conflicted thoughts… Illegible, paralyzing… painful. Oh how he wished it would simply stop- why oh why, was life so… unfair? Why must the Gods curse him for following his heart, instead of being a puppet in their schemes? Was he not allowed to simply be…? How was that such a horrible crime in the eyes of all…? He clenched his fists, his anger, generally carefully sealed away, flashing across his crimson eyes. He didn’t notice as small trickles of blxxd dripped down his palm, falling silently to the floor below. /One day, he’d show them all… They’d finally understand… He was no monster, no villain… Everything he’d done, and would do, was out of love for his people- no matter what they thought of him…/ Devryne let out a soft chuckle as he grabbed the nearest box of candles, inspecting it before smiling softly. Perfect! They had some! He’d almost thought he’d have to leave the damn province to find more./ Do they hate red candles in particular here or something?! Hmph…/ He telekinetically grabbed all he could, then dashed for the door- /there were no guards nearby, no customers, nobody would-./ “… You have to pay for those…” A bored voice called out, stopping him dead in his tracks. Devryne turned around slowly, grinning sheepishly at the shopkeeper as he slowly approached the counter, setting them back down “Err, yes, of course- sorry, I was getting ahead of myself there- uh… Just those six boxes please-“ The shopkeeper raised a singed eyebrow, tutting as she shook her head “Okay then… That’ll be… Hm…~” “By uh… Vivec! GIVE ME THE DAMN PRICE ALREADY” Devryne shouted, utterly exasperated by the exactly 29 seconds that had already passed. The shopkeeper shrugged, looking him directly in the eyes before she declared monotonously “Well in that case, 10'000 drakes. No more, no less…” /No- she couldn’t do this- what sort of price was that?! Those boxes were usually about 35-48 drakes each- she couldn’t just?!/ Complete, unfiltered horror spread across Devryne’s face as he processed this, his jaw hanging agape. He couldn’t wrap his head around this… Did this other Dunmer have no concept of basic math… or was this some dreadful scam imposed upon him due to the prejudice against him, and what those like him believed in…? Almost subconsciously he summoned a bound dagger, driving it thrxugh her chest- before shrugging back at her, and strutting out of the store. A triumphant grin on his face, and a spring in his step. /Ha! Nobody could ever scam him! He was a GOD after all… Oh how hilarious… HOW COULD YOU SCAM A GOD?!/ Why did I write this-
