As British and French troops march into Cologne, a violent mob kills Kaiser Wilhelm II. Most of the German army deserts, defects, and surrenders. On February 27th, 1917, the French flag is raised over the Reichstag. Meanwhile, on the Eastern Front, Russian forces steamroll the Austro-Hungarian lines due to the absence of their allies. A treaty is drawn up between Austria-Hungary, Russia, and the Serbian states. Russian forces return home in time to crush a peasant rebellion led by a certain V.I. Lenin. With the threat of the Austro-Hungarian empire gone, the Balkan states unite against the Ottomans. Their forces crushed, the Sultan flees to Asia. The empire splits into three factions: A monarchist faction, led by the Sultan's alleged ancestors, a Socialist faction, and a democratic faction. A treaty is signed at Paris in January of 1918. Nine months later, Prussia secedes in a rebellion led by Prince Adalbert of Prussia. Bavaria and it's adjacent states form a democratic republic. The failed Bolshevik revolutionaries retreat into Southern Russia and ally with the Socialist Turks.
