As always, there WILL be spoilers in this review. So please watch the episode before reading. | | | | | V I was hoping that this episode would finally turn modern BFDIA around...and it wasn't even close. I honestly cant figure out if I prefer this to BFDIA 7, but for the sake of this review I'll say it's worse. For an episode that tries so hard to replicate early BFDIA, I have never seen such an aggressively anti-BFDIA episode. This was the first time since TPOT 5 where I genuinely had to pause the episode to take mental breaks, because every character was either dumb, unlikable, or derailed. Well, except for one. If I had to give this episode any credit at all, It would be that it cemented Fries' status as the GOAT of the season. For a series that managed to derail nearly every character, Fries is miraculously still the level headed, funny, semi-agressive character he has always been. He was the only one who didn't switch to the braindead idea for the new giant team, which I will talk about later. And when he used psychological warfare to straight up gaslight Bomby and Needle to get digging was the funniest part of post BFDIA 5 by far. Oh yeah, that challenge was just okay. They straight up ripped off Object Lockdown thats crazy. Uh BBQ sauce and Pineapple voiced by Tomska were pretty okay characters. Uhh everything with Fries was pretty great, nearly everything else with the B.F.D.I. was pretty not great. I am pretty sure this episode must have the record for most reccomended character screen time, because they are everywhere. I don't have a problem with it like I did for the references in BFDIA 9, because it actually makes sense in the narritive of this challenge. The..driving montage reminded me of BFDIA 5 and that made me happy. Okyay, I can't think of any more positives about this episode, lets go into the negatives starting with the elimination! WHY DID GELATIN GET OUT? WHY VIEWERS? Don't get me wrong, I couldn't have been more glad that Fries ended up staying, but you couldn't have voted out TB or GB? Gelatin was the only character who did anything in the last episode, well I guess TB did stuff too but the point still stands! Not to mention the condrodictions with BFB 29 when the Speaker Box mentions Gelatin is the only character to have never been eliminated? How dare a show have continuity on a throwaway line said over a year ago!!! Now for the character segment! Why is everyone out of character all of a sudden? Characters like Coiny and GB would NEVER switch teams for a reason as dumb as "ice cube is making a beautiful face!" But to be fair, GB was forced to switch because TB idiotically used his swap token even though a good chunck of the previous episode was cementing that he was very smart, just overshadowed by Golf Ball. The B.F.D.I. has to be my new least favorite team because they are going to do the thing where the tiny team barely wins every episode, even though that already happened at the start of the season. Three teams was perfect, it did not need changing I'm sorry. Is Pencil going to bring her alliance to make Freesmart 2??? This entire idea sucks, and it never needed to happen. Oh yeah, I mentioned that this episode feels "aggressively anti-BFDIA", what do I mean by that? I mean that it feels like an episode of early Object Invasion more than an actual BFDI episode. The most obvious example was when they dedicated over a minute to Pencil's ice cream advertisement, and made a friggin DUBSTEP REMIX. I had to ask myself out loud, is this real? This feels more like a crappost than an actual episode. Or how about when Pin Book and Spongy couldn't sell anything to save their life? Definition of using their lizard brain, and not their wizard brain. Overall, this episode was lame and proof that reviving BFDIA was an awful idea from the start.
