I made a tier list of every instrument in Noteflight (the site I use to make my music)... I just felt like it ✦✦✦✦✦✦ Click any of the instruments' buttons to hear what that instrument sounds like, judge for yourself (DISCLAIMER: this only has the free version's instruments, I don't have the paid version)
These are not definitive, this is how I personally rank them. It's fine if you disagree with any of them ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ✦✦✦✦✦✦ Tier meanings: ◦ S tier - Perfect, wouldn't change anything about it. ◦ A tier - Really good and works well ◦ B tier - Not perfect, but still pretty good ◦ C tier - Could be better, but has its purposes ◦ D tier - Not a fan, will only use if no other choice ◦ F tier - Literally just repeats/worse versions of instruments in higher tiers :l ✦✦✦✦✦✦ Some of the workarounds I use (using one instrument as a non-existent one): ◦ Viola - organ ◦ Guitar - slap bass, pizzicato strings ◦ Electric Bass - xylophone (high octaves) ◦ Alto Sax - square wave/synthesizer ◦ Trombone - synthesizer (ish) ◦ Piano - xylophone ◦ Grand Piano - steel drums, orchestra hit ◦ Trumpet + viola - full orchestra ✦✦✦✦✦✦ Grand Piano and Alto Sax were originally ranked a lot lower, but they've started to grow on me a bit.
