i would record myself making this rant but im literally on one of the school computers with hundreds of STUPID kids yapping their mouths with no microphone with me so i can't. also this isnt directed towards anyone's scratch mixes (or atleast the ones that actually have quality lmao) if youve been living under a rock, in the scratch exe community "scratch mixes" are scratch-themed versions of already existing exes, such as for example, one would make a scratch mix PS135 or a NMI or something like that. and while i dont wanna be a grinch when it comes to what someone can and can't make in the scratch exe community i hate a good bit of scratch mixes. (notice how I didn't say all) mainly because of the fact that most of them are just CARBON COPIES OF THE ORIGINAL SOURCE MATERIAL TO A T. they never try anything remotely new or different, nor expand on the story and make it into something unique. some of them don't even reach their full potential for those reasons AND BECAUSE OF THAT THEY END UP BEING "ohhhh what if I took this character and made it but scratch!! that's literally it" WHICH IS STUPIDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD SPEAKING OF SCRATCH MOST OF THEM USE SCRATCH CAT AS THE MAIN BASE FOR THEM. LIKE SERIOUSLY. THERE IS AN ENTIRE CATALOUGE OF MASCOTS AND CHARACTERS YOU CAN USE AND YET YOU JUST TAKE THE EASY WAY OUT AND BE LAZY. and you wanna know what's worse. some scratch mix "mods" fall into the same trap as scratch mix characters in the sense that the characters are just LITERALLY CARBON 1 TO 1 COPIES OF THE ORIGINAL CHARACTER WITH NO SUBSTANCE OR ANYTHING TO THEM. take for example, the SSS mod SCR@1CTH'S M@DN3SS (horrible name btw) where if you go to the studio of the mod it LITERALLY LOOKS AN AYS PROJECT WITH HOW IT'S LITERALLY JUST A CARBON COPY OF THE ORIGINAL MARIO'S MADNESS MOD. THEY ARE SO LAZY THEY CAN'T EVEN COME UP WITH ORIGINAL IDEAS OR CHARACTER DESIGNS. AND WHILE THERE ARE ACTUALLY GOOD SCRATCH MIX-ESQUE MODS (vs dogfir lol) THEY'RE LIKE BLADES OF GRASS IN THE FIELD OF SOULESS CRAP. make your scratch mixes somewhat unique. make them try and play around with the concept of a scratch mix, or better yet what a mix is supposed to be in general. mario mixes arent meant to be carbon copies of the original characters. take misfire's PS135 for example; it has the potential to be an entirely different character because it's design and backstory are (in my opinion atleast) extremely detached from Xenophanes, while still having resemblance to them and still fitting the role they play in their respective mod. alright thats enough from me. if you disagree with my opinion feel free to flame me in the comments :3c
