The burning metal was far too close to my skin. If the half human had moved even an inch closer, I would be branded for life. “So, Hanin. Are you going to tell us?” “I don’t even know her. Why would you use her as incentive?” “Are you sure you’re willing to let this happen to her? She did come back to save you after all. Seems like a crummy way to return the favor.” The glowing metal was barely a centimeter from my skin. Hanin flinched. An evil smile stretched across the captain’s face. He let out an exaggerated sigh. “I suppose he really doesn’t care about you. What a shame. Go ahead Gastro.” A gasp escaped my lips. I saw the metal close the gap. “Wait!” Hanin screamed, just in time. “The Sideless! I gave it to the Sideless!” Gastrovian put his finger away and dropped me to the ground. “Interesting. I had no idea the Sideless were part of the rebellion.” He turned to Gastrovian. “Set a course for the painless isles. And prepare those two.” “Prepare us for what?” I demanded. He smiled. “You’re going to get my jewel back.” *&* A few hours later, Hanin and I were standing in the launch bay of the ship, the mouth of the whale. We were approaching a red and blue planet. Made entirely of melted ice were three large oceans, and the rest of its surface was covered by hundreds of islands, their sizes varying. As we began to descend upon one of the little plots of land, Wrenchinator grabbed Both Hanin and I by the collars of our shirts, and chucked us into the sea. Hanin screamed like a little girl the entire fall, and I covered my ears. We splashed into the middle of the sapphire-colored sea. I surfaced quickly, and for one, wonderful second, I thought Hanin had drowned, but then he popped his grinning head out of the water and gave me a wink. I sent a tidal wave crashing down on him and swam to shore. The red sand crusted around my clothes, seeping into the cracks of my armor. I groaned. “This is going to take FOREVER to wash!” “YOUR clothes will take forever to wash?” Hanin cried. “What about MY boots! Do you have an idea how hard it is to get sand out of these? And how much it cost to buy another pair? Five THOUSAND Jadethist! You could buy a billion shells to strap to your back with that much!” I grabbed him by the collar and lifted him into the air. “Insult my armor again, and there is NO amount of money that can protect you from me.” Hanin raised his arms in surrender. “Sorry, sorry. I was just messing around.” I chucked him into the sand. “That was unnecessary.” Came Hanin’s muffled voice from beneath a ruby colored dune. I surveyed our surroundings. The island we were standing on was covered by blue trees and bushes, and the sky was the color of dandelions. It was like someone had taken all the colors and switched them around. “What are we supposed to be doing here anyway?” I asked. “Stealing the devanmore diamond from the Rebels.” Hanin replied, dusting off his shirt. “Ok, say that again but imagine you are talking to someone who knows nothing about any of what you just told me. OH WAIT. YOU ARE.” “I get it, I get it, you can be sarcastic too.” He gave me a smile. I shot him my best de@th glare. He sighed, then told me, “The devanmore diamond is the best power concentration device in the universe. If you were to put a harmless cat laser through it, it would have the power of the de@th star, like the one in the hundred-and-second Star Wars movie. The rebellion is a group that believes in exposing the dark side of the council and bringing light and justice to our flawed universe. They have it, I gave it to them, the captain wants it so that he can have lots of fire power. Any other questions?” I glared at him. “yeah, HOW DO WE GET THAT?!” “We don’t” Hanin replied, sitting down. My death glare intensified, and it took every fiber of my being not to smack him upside the head. “If we don’t get that diamond, we will be stranded here, and we will STARVE. I am NOT going to d!e because you are too LAZY to get a ROCK.” He ignored me, and started fiddling with some sticks. I threw my hands in the air and began stomping around the minuscule island to find resources, stopping every now and then to shoot dirty looks at Hanin. (story continues) | V

Description

When the sun was beginning to set, sending brilliant greens, blues, and purples across the yellow sky, I caught a fish, and walked over to set a fire. (I hoped I could shove Hanin’s face in the coals along with the fish.) When I saw him, I noticed he’d whittled a strange little instrument. “THAT’S what you been working on this whole time?” I screamed. He ignored me again. “How does it go again? C C A G E? no, no… C A G C E? Wait! I remember now!” “What are you talking about? STOP IGNOREING ME!” He put the strange creation up to his lips, and blew into it, creating a haunting tune. I was about to tell him to stop, when an equally haunting song returned the call. When the tune finished, I looked at him in apprehension. He looked at me with his signature smug smirk. “What was that?” “Caci,” he replied, “Get ready to meet the rebels.” Suddenly, the center of our island exploded, and a massive ship emerged from the sand. I watched it in shock. The door opened, and a man stepped out. “Agent Dagen, I see that you made it.” He acknowledged in a cold voice. “I see that as well.” Hanin replied, equally cool. the man nodded, with an air of distaste. Then he turned and sh0t at me. I heard Hanin’s yell, and saw the world blur to red, then to black. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I'm so mean. these cliffhangers are proof that I am SO mean.
