(Woop woop literally cpoy and pasted from my entry/form- *cries*) Cái was born into a small town settled snugly in a bamboo forest on a Lunar New Year. (Really sorry, I'm not trying to be mean but it's really Lunar New Year, not Chinese. It's just more known to be celebrated in China, but countries all over Asia celebrate it. Again, sorry, and back to the story!) Growing up, all she ever heard about was how toms born with a star-shaped mark on their heads were special, and that 'he' was going to grow up to do great things, maybe even save the world! But all this ever did was stress Cái out. She felt like the other cats were expecting too much from her, and she wasn't ready for this responsibility. She was even too scared to tell her parents that she identified as female and was lesbian, as her town was very traditional and frowned upon anything that strayed from the original. She also had trouble making friends. The other kits kept mocking her, saying that she was too "special" to play with the "commoners". Cái wasn't extremely good at anything. She was only decent, of common skill compared to everyone else, and the kids mocked her for that, as the adults expected better of her. The only thing that really kept Cái happy was a red lantern. As her town was very small, it was hard to get tons of supplies, so she always had to keep the fire inside going with bits of bamboo from the forest. Every night, Cái was soothed by its warm, pulsing glow, as it washed her day's worries away. ...but there would always be more the next day. Waves after waves of troubles came to her constantly, and one day, something terrible happened. A dark shadow had come over the land of 运气(yùn qì; luck), where Cái's village laid. This creature was a monstrous, demonic thing, that fed off cats' biggest fears, and could bring them to life. The cats deemed this creature 暗(àn; the dark/darkness), and worst of all for Cái, her villagers expected her to defeat it. After all, it IS the "great big destiny of the star-marked tom". But Cái wasn't ready for this. All her life, she had wanted nothing more than to be accepted as a normal cat, and she wasn made for this responsibility. So she ran, ran far away from her bamboo village, towards the heart of Yùn Qì. But as she fled under the cover of darkness, her parents saw, and alerted the village while trying to stop her. During the scuffle, Cái lost her tail, but the entire time, she clung on tightly to her red lantern. The only source of light and comfort she had. There was a commonly known spell in this land. It was simple, and easy to do. It replaced your tail with an object, an object of your choosing, as long as you had it. The richer, more elite cats in the city did it for looks, but as cats in the country needed their tails for balance to do work, it was hardly ever done where Cái lived...but that didn mean she didn't know the words. The spell was a simple one, all you needed was an object of your choosing and your own self. All you had to do was sing the incantation as you closed your eyes and held the object in your paws, but this spell could only be done once, and it could never be undone. So that's what Cái did. I mean, if she lost her tail, and was on the run to the city to start a new life, why not at least try to blend in? And bonuses, she wouldn't be left with a scarred stump on her rear, and her most beloved object would always be with her. She would never lose her one comfort. It didn't even matter that she would have a hard time lighting it and looking into the glow as long as she knew it was there. So as she quietly sang the words, she cried. Not out of sadness, but out of the joy of her newfound freedom. After the spell had been done, she set off. Set off for the capitol, set off towards her new life...and maybe a first love?...
