The alien grunts are armored soldiers from xen that are actually pretty powerful. Their main weapon is the hive hand that rapidly shoots orange insect things that can chase their target and actually deal a bit of damage. And plus they can punch enemies and that does quite a bit of damage. They also are made in large numbers in xen factories so because of this are pretty good at invasions.
