A preview of the book I am making. “Mark, I found an enchanted scroll,” Otis said, “Otis, you know that all of the enchanters disappeared hundreds of years ago, right?” “Plus, how did you even find it in this giant library?” Otis took a glance at the massive library. There were several rows of shelves full of scrolls on the left and right, all pointing towards the center path full of tables with people sitting and reading. In front of that, a giant table surrounded four people working to help check out scrolls for fellow shapeshifters. On top of that, yellow-white bird-shaped letters were flying in and out of the windows of the giant wooden entrance doors. The second floor overlooked the first, with people leaning over the railing gazing at their letters as they flew away. He felt slight compassion for the people who made the giant library hundreds of years ago. The sprawling bookshelves on both floors were saturated with the tint from the lanterns that sat hung along the walls; he had been in the library countless times before—for he lived on the Shapeshifter Islands for as long as he could remember— but it still felt surreal inside the massive library. “I stumbled across it looking for another scroll,” Otis said, “It had no title, so I grabbed it.” “But how do you know it’s enchanted?” Mark said. Otis thought, How do I tell him I had a vision when I first grabbed the scroll? All I heard was An unsuspecting warrior will come. An unsuspecting warrior will stop the war. An unsuspecting warrior will receive the gem. An unsuspecting warrior will become a dragon. I can still recite it for some reason. I always forget things like that. Ok then, I’ll just suck it up and tell him. “I will tell you,” he said, “but come over here first.” “Ok,” Mark said. They walked over to a corner with few people, and Otis whispered, “I had a vision,” “A vision?” Mark raised his voice slightly, stopping himself before it was too late. “About what?” Mark whispered back. “I pretty much just heard things,” said Otis. “Can you say what you heard?” Mark wondered. “There was some kind of prophecy. It said: An unsuspecting warrior will come. An unsuspecting warrior will stop the war. An unsuspecting warrior will receive the gem. An unsuspecting warrior will become a dragon.” Mark replied, “Wow, I thought being worthy of a dragon was extremely rare.” “The last shapeshifter to become a dragon was hundreds of years ago,” Otis said. “What about the war part?” Mark asked in a normal voice. “Let’s research for a bit,” Otis replied. “Got it,” Mark started, “Let’s split up.” Mark went towards the right of the library, his appearance fading into the crowd. Otis stayed there and began looking around where he first found the scroll. It feels so strange around this scroll. It feels like right before I had the vision. There, another vision. It felt the same as a giant boulder crushing him. And the same quote, “An unsuspecting warrior will come. An unsuspecting warrior will stop the war. An unsuspecting warrior will receive the gem. An unsuspecting warrior will become a dragon.” recited in his head over and over. This vision had a boy in it. He looked like an ordinary boy. Nothing special about him, or was there? “Otis,” an unrecognizable voice said as his vision and hearing began to come back, “Otis,” again, “Otis,” he was fully awake now, getting up to see Mark standing in front of him. “What happened?” Mark asked. “I'm ok. Just another vision.” “What?!” Mark halfway yelled, “Anything different this time?” “Yes, I saw a boy with a blue shirt,” Otis said. At least, I hope so. “I remember someone like that,” Mark started, looking suspicious. “Some kind of quote saying, ‘You are the one from the prophecy, the prophecy of dragons.’” “Well then, let’s find him,” Otis replied. Mark said, “I know exactly where to look.”
