I had just of recent finished my instrumental album, 25 Days In The Studio, featuring slow hip hop, jazz and ambient tracks! Since there's over 20 items in the complete list, I thought I would showcase here the top 7. The complete album isn't published anywhere at the moment, but if it is, I will let you guys know. All of the tracks here were created using GarageBand. === Track commentary Note: I took these descriptions off my album guide, and the tracks are not in chronological order, so the comments may seem kinda confusing at some points, please don’t hesitate to ask me if you’re not sure! 1 - Riding I really liked the piano melody and chord progression for this track, though I had been using the Antarctic Sun synth one too many times by now. The emphasis on the strong beat in the percussion falls differently on this track compared to the rest of the tracks that I have created, giving it a slightly different meter. I also incorporated the Shimmering Bells which I would use again in my next track. 2 - Blue Sky Since I really liked the timbre that the Shimmering Bells synth gave me in the previous track, I decided to include it again. This track is definitely more jazz oriented, again, with a lot more improvisation. 3 - Improvise When You Don’t Know Like the title implies, this track puts a very heavy emphasis on improvisation in the middle sections, which is probably why this ended up being the longest track in the entire album, and where I started to focus on improv a lot more. This is also probably where I started to use piano in improv and melody more, as well as supporting instruments (instead of different layers doing their own thing: note the dynamics between the clarinet and piano, not quite harmonic accompaniment but not a countermelody either). 4 - Veering Off Course As I had been using rather bland chord progressions in the past few tracks, I decided that I would once again focus on the aspect of tonality. This track was the first time I used Bandura Dreams, a string synth that sounded similar to a muffled acoustic guitar (there aren’t many good guitar textures that I could find on the app). It gave the track a sort of drowsy and confusing feel, hence the title of the track. 5 - All Alone This is definitely primarily a chill hip hop track rather than being a fusion like most of the tracks. I took a lot of inspiration from lofi beats and it uses most of those principles. It’s very simplistic and there’s not much going on, but it is clear that my piano-melody craze is starting to set in a bit. 6 - Bells at Noon The first of my experimental ambient tracks based on a series of visual prompts I had noted down. This is one of my favourite tracks in the album. I really like the background gong synths, and the Chinese Kit percussion. While the chord progression is rather simple I do feel like it conveys that faraway, mystical sensation. 7 - Canoe by The Pine This was most definitely inspired by the artist C418, whom I had listened to beforehand, and it is the only track not to feature percussion. The image I had in mind for this track was a lone canoe floating in a narrow stream in the middle of a pine forest, and I wanted it to sound very gentle and flowing. === Happy listening! If you have any questions about the album please don't hesitate to ask me! === Tags *coughs* #art #music #composition #originalcomposition #album #garageband
