Instructions

Pepper crashed through the undergrowth. She was going to be late. If she ran fast, she could make it on time. Pepper could see the meeting cave. She could understand why the fox that hired Pepper had demanded to meet there. Clusters of mint covered the ground, replacing the smell of the forest with the sharp scent of mint. It would be hard to find any scents here, let alone track a trail. Pepper slowed as the ground dipped, leading into the cave. She ducked under branches that had woven themselves over the cave. A minute after Pepper arrived, golden fur glinted in the sunlight filtering through the small, cramped entrance. “You were almost late.” A voice said from Pepper’s right side. She turned but saw no fox. The shadows were too dark to see anything even with vision that could see in the dark. As her eyes adjusted to the darkness, Pepper could see that this was Flicker, the other spy the unknown Fox had hired. “Sorry. Got a bit lost.” Flicker apologised, fidgeting with the plants poking through the cracks in the cave. Pepper started to give her report. “In Sycamore Village it's peaceful. Everyone is at ease. Four pups are to attempt the Adulthood Trial tomorrow.” Pepper paused, but before she could continue, the strange fox spoke. “Eat.” The fox offered them a shrew each. Flicker ate his with gusto. “You can have mine. I ate on the way.” Pepper lied. Flicker happily ate hers too. Pepper didn't trust the fox that had hired them as spies. The fox frowned. When the fox had leaned forward to pass them the shrews, Pepper had seen what he looked like. His once orange pelt was matted with filth and grime. How had he even paid for spies? Pepper thought uneasily. Stealing? Pepper continued her report. “The mayor of Sycamore Village is as frail as ever and his daughter is taking on most of the responsibility.” Pepper finished and turned to Flicker, awaiting his report. “Oh, um. I got what Pepper said, I guess. Basically the same thing.” The fox in the corner of the room dipped his head. “Dismissed.” Pepper rose to her paws and exited the cave. The scent of mint immediately flooded her nostrils. Both she and Flicker rushed to clear their noses of the smell. Pepper smelled a sickly sweet smell on Flicker. It smelled like trimble weed. Trimble weed was a highly poisonous weed. Even a snip of it could keep an adult fox stuck in their den for a week. A whole leaf could easily kill a fox. Trimble weed did not have a scent, but it's foam did. Trimble weed foam was produced when it touched saliva. The only thing one of them had recently eaten was the shrew. By the moon, the shrew! Trimble weed in the shrew! Pepper’s cry barely escaped her lips before Flicker’s legs buckled and he crumpled to the ground.

Description

Presenting... Blazing Bright! A book I was working on for a while a month or two ago. Why not continue it? Maybe if I had enough motivation to start, I could have enough to finish. Next: W.I.P. Previous: None First: You're here silly Feel free to ask me any questions!
