Instructions

My need to intensely hyperfixate over very specific moments of AvA burns with the rage of a thousand suns. Buckle up. ((WARNING: SPOILS BASICALLY ALL OF AVM S3)) ...So. Mango. Mango and walls. I was watching The King for... maybe the... thirtieth time? And I noticed something I hadn't before. Walls. We see him cut off by walls multiple times, both in the flashback at the beginning and in the... voidspace? ... near the end. First, the obvious one; the physical one. The glass doors, unopenable, trapping Gold. He can't get past them. He can't open them, isn't able to get his son to safety. The walls cut him off, separate him and his son. Then, the wall in his house; he attacks the Minecraft flyer he's pasted on it, then the wall itself. It's the same wall, the same glass wall as before. He can't get past. Maybe he's the one trapped. Then the one in the voidspace. He's forced to watch his actions, realize what he's done, and helpless to stop it. Again and again, he attacks the wall, desperately trying to reverse what has already happened. Every time, the walls cut him off. The walls trap him. Maybe it's the same wall, in the end. Not physically, but they mean the same thing to him. Helplessness. Powerlessness. Maybe that's why he chose to be called king. Maybe that's why he wore the crown. It's a symbol of power, after all. Except when he's in the voidspace, and he realizes his actions didn't change anything. Would never have changed anything. He's still helpless. Except he's not. Not now, not in the voidspace. For the first time, he breaks through the wall. It shatters. It was glass all along. And now he can see who was hidden by that wall. Now he can step into the other side. Now he's free, maybe.
