Welp seems like they just released episodes 1 and 2 last night and I missed it! Here's my review so far. Spoilers, obviously. (click stage and read desc) -------- ep. 1 My overall critique is that the pacing was done incredibly poorly, and there were multiple opportunities to do something cool or interesting that were missed. First off, the narration at the beginning started off decent, then started to feel overdone. There were even some points later on that I felt like could've needed it, but lacked it. I feel like the narration needed something to back it up and reinforce Percy's statements, and we could have also used just in general more screen time for the exposition. I think a lot of the timing was wasted, and while I understand they're trying to fit these specific plot points within or stretched to a certain episode time, the pacing should still have been done better. For example, not enough time is spent with seeing Percy's struggles, his friendship and his protecting Grover, Gabe's ab^se, and just Percy's relationship with his mom. Instead of giving us these really weird 'inspirational' sound bites, they could've just shown us *actual* moments of love or friendship to show us what these people mean to Percy. The second piece of this bad pacing is reflected in the fact that the time spent on the end of ep. 1 is actually horrible. I mean, they even STOP at the Montauk cabin to *talk*? There is just WAY to much time spent on this plot point. It should've been done quickly and rapidly, so quickly that even the viewer barely knows what's happening, and it feels like it's all gone too soon. We're supposed to feel adrenaline and tense confusion the entire time, we (the audience) and Percy should be struggling to process everything, that gives him his character motivation. But stopping for 5 minutes at the base of the hill to give a motivational speech? No! Omygods you guys this pacing just needs to be redistributed this is embarrassing. We should be very confused about what happened to his mom, not clearly be able to see it. They should've been running with absolutely no time to talk, and no explanations until getting inside the camp... Oh well. I also regret to inform you that there are SO many missed opportunities... (wow I have finished writing this yet lol) -- ep. 2 ...review in progress... -- General Consensus: These first two episodes have just been.... Meh. It’s fine. I'm nitpicking some stuff obviously, because THE WRITERS CAN DO BETTER THAN THIS, but uh, yeah. They've haven't done anything *too* bad yet, other than (1) jump straight to Hades/skip the Oracle, (2) mess up the campers' motivations, and (3) ruin all of Percy's relationships. - - Credits —>@RavensArcher —> Rick Riordan —> Disney Seriously though why are the swords SO SMALL.
