Ballad of the Wind Fish may be one of the most emotional pieces of music in all of Zelda, like Midna's Lament and Fi's Farewell. The original version actually sounds a bit more upbeat, since it's played in major key, but the reason why the song is emotional, is because (spoiler warning for Link's Awakening) it is the key to awakening the Wind Fish and escaping Koholint Island, while also. . .erasing it in the process. The Island of Koholint on which Link's Awakening takes place is all part of the Wind Fish's dream, and thus by waking him up, Link completely erases Koholint Island and everyone on it from existance, and it's because of this song. Kinda sad if you think about it.
