preface this with wicca should be capitalized, but i don't use capitals very often, so it wont here, just telling anyone who reads this ]] [also i typed this very messily, please correct me (nicely please!!) if i got something wrong) [ wicca !! ] what /is/ wicca, really? - though i might not be the best to answer this i've been doing research so: wicca is a religion that worships nature, and believes in the power of nature + "magick" wicca is also the belief that throughout the world there is energy, and that people can harness & use that energy! wicca is not witchcraft, and witchcraft is not wicca, but they are interconnected and one can be a witch without being wicca, and vice versa, though magick is usually very important in wicca! (correct me if im wrong, i have heard this from a lot of people, which is why i put it here) - wiccan magick is not like harry potter magic, they are even spelt differently! wiccan magick (with a k) is harnessing nature (& any goddesses/gods, deities, spirits, etc, the person believes in) to gain something, change something in the physical world, etc. the reasons for magick may differ from wiccan to wiccan :] - wiccans do not have a set book of rules, like a bible, and no real set-in-stone belief (i think-) , but many wiccans will believe in a goddess, (probably the most common otherwordly being in the religion) sometimes a god (often shown as the son of the goddess) , and other goddesses/gods, often from greek/roman/etc mythology! - wicca often shows an importance to feminity, as can be seen with the "main god" being a goddess, and other ways (why was this so hard to phrase??) but many wiccans also view all genders to be equal - wicca does have a rede, but it definitely isnt the wiccan bible. but from this their are some ideas that are often seen within wicca. - the rule of 3fold, in which whatever you put into the world will come back 3fold, or 3x as much - the belief that everything is interconnected, through energy often (there is a study/theory on this, suggesting that everywhere there is energy, at all times, and objects, creatures, etc, are just highly condensed energy, and wicca is the belief that we can alter that energy.) and it is often shown as the goddess being the interconneting energy. - not every wiccan is exactly the same, and though their are some groups within wicca that have their basic belives, their are also types of (electric i think, i know theres a word for it) wiccans who will not really follow one thing or another, but make their own path. i really reccomened "wicca and witchcraft for dummies" and "wiccapedia" as books on wicca, i've gotten abt halfway through both (:cri: at least they explained the basics in the beginning- that audio book is 15 hours...) and they are both pretty good, and wicca and witchcraft for dummies explains wicca with science!! [ side note on me: i freaking love wicca and i dont know why; i know a lot more abt it, i just really struggle to explain it without any biases or without struggling with phrasing some things! the basics of wicca are simple, yet completcated, if that makes sense, and just, its really interesting (and makes sense, especially listening to wicca and witchcraft for dummies, showing how it could align with science-) funny moment: i was explaining wicca to a friend, they first thought it was the worship of the devil/demons (i think they are christan, so like satan worship) and i had to explain to them why wicca wasn't- very embarrassing for some reason- aaaa \\ well, i hope you enjoyed my little bad explanation :D ]
