https://warriorcats.com/content/article/beyond-the-fence-short-story-competition-2 The story you have to write about (I copied and pasted, so it says 'I' a lot. Keep in mind that this is not me) : Christmas looms on the horizon, which means only one thing in the world of Warrior Cats: time to prepare your 500 word stories! I can hardly believe we have reached the THIRD Warrior Cats Short Story competition. Yet again, you inspired, entertained and astonished us with your creativity last year when you completed my opening scene for The Hidden Prophecy. The Erin team is keen to see what you come up with this time! I have gone back to the earliest days of the series this year, with a scene featuring Firepaw, Sandpaw and Dustpaw when they were apprentices. Firepaw has only been in ThunderClan for two moons and has yet to prove himself to many of his Clanmates, who remain suspicious of his kittypet roots. We never had time to dwell on Firepaw’s brief apprenticeship in Series One; larger events in ThunderClan, in particular the machinations of Tigerclaw and his quest for power, meant that we had to skip past much of his training and zoom him to warrior status so that he could start to fulfil the prophecy that fire would save the Clan. I’m often asked if there are any big stories I didn’t get to tell in the early books. I truly can’t think of any significant events that I overlooked, but I do get curious about the little corners of the major stories, the smaller details of character development and minor incidents which made up the Clan’s busy life. I wonder how Firepaw coped during the routine training and hunting patrols? Did it bother him that some of his fellow apprentices treated him like an intruder? And how did those apprentices feel about having a kittypet training alongside them? I’ve written this year’s opening scene from Sandpaw’s perspective but you don’t have to stick to that. You don’t even have to use a Clan cat’s viewpoint… Read the scene carefully to see where the story might lead you. We love it when you take us in an unexpected direction, as long as it makes sense within the Warriors world.
