Interested in my work? invite me through this studio: https://scratch.mit.edu/studios/34368698 Fullscreen recommended, space/click for extra my first DTAE! thanks for stopping by~ Didn't mean to enter for such a popular character ahaha but the design is so cute Lore: //Crown (known also as Charon, the Messenger, God of Bad Omens... and other titles lost to time)// [note! greek/roman terms are used for inspiration, not intended to reflect historical accuracy] CW: mention of death & gambling, implied death --- Facing the crowd, the centurion raised his hands, lifting the banner of War to the heavens. "We fight not for defeat, but for hope, stability, and the people of our nation-- for victory!" The resounding cheer startled birds into the sky. Six birds, in fact. Six... crows. The centurion shuddered. A good thing, that the cheers drowned out their tell-tale caws. The cohort had enough omens already. --- A gambling man stole through the alleyway. He was too excited-- too focused on his destination-- to notice the card hidden in his sleeve had slipped out. It drifted softly towards the glow of a streetlight before landing in a murky puddle, face up. The water swallowed the Ace of Spades. --- On the dresser, the police found a letter written in gold ink and stamped with the feather of a crow. The letter was addressed to the woman who had died yesterday of strange causes. This would make good evidence. Funny, how the letter never made it out of the house... --- On the banks of the river Styx (named after the daughter of Death), Charon waded through the water, paws stained black with its murky contents. He was headed toward a group of spirits huddled on the dock, where he would be the first to tell them the sorry news-- that they had died. --- It was a beautiful night for a celebration, and the warm light and merry cheer reflected the joy in everyone's hearts. As the spirited chatter rose to the stars the God of Bad Omens slinked across rooftops, silhouetted by the full moon. He arrived at his destination shortly-- a small and cozy townhouse where a cheerful mother and her three children smiled together with friends, heralding the New Year. It had been a long time since Crown had felt remorse. His heart had numbed itself to his job-- his eternal destiny (or so he thought). But this night would test him. "I'm sorry," he whispered. "I wish it could be like this forever-- for you, and for me. But eternity is a curse." He turned to his familiar, the spirit-crow, and prepared the omen. --- Was immortality so hard to ask for? Crown was the dismal answer to this question-- everlasting evidence that everything comes with a price. Once, he ruled kingdoms as the greatest emperor. His ambition was immortality, and he sought a way to cheat Death. When she came to take Crown's soul, she found he had violated the Divine Principles and transferred his soul to the body of the cat, while looking for a suitable human host. Furious, Death cursed him with his greatest wish-- eternity. Crown now serves the daughter of Death, Styx, as the God of Bad Omens, an eternal messenger to the living and dead. He performs many functions: as Charon, he welcomes the dead to the Underworld, and as the Messenger he leaves a simple warning to the living. Lonely though he is, he finds friends in the lesser transgressors of the Divine Principles, who take the form of voiceless spirit-crows. On rare days when the work takes a leisurely pace, Crown often wonders what his past might have been before Death erased his name and legacy. And he plots-- plots yet again to cheat Death and restore his rule. Some things never change... --- extra info for anyone who was curious! --- one of my first digital arts but i'm pretty happy with how it turned out~ I use the (free!!) program Krita with standard + custom brushes on the Artist 12 Pro It took 7ish hours ;v; mostly because I kept obsessing over the bricks Song is Emperor's New Clothes by Panic! At the Disco
