I’ve seen so much hate for the LGBTQIA2S+ community recently, in scratch and in real life. I’m usually more chill on my account, but this is serious, and as someone who is part of the queer community, there are a few things that I need to say. 1 - Religion is not an excuse to be homophobic. I’ve seen lots of people saying that being queer goes against their religion, specifically people who are Christian. I’m not saying that Christianity or any other religion isn’t valid, but you can be religious and still respect everyone. I’m not religious, but I know that in the original Christian Bible, it never says anything bad about queer people. In fact, according to the Bible, we should love and respect everyone, no matter their identity. 2 - “It’s just a phase” So many people have been saying this, and it’s not true. I’ve known I was genderfluid for about a year now, and never had any doubts. If you’re a cisgender girl or boy, and have been for your whole life, imagine being told you weren’t, for absolutely no reason. That’s how it feels. Same goes for if you’re straight. 3 - We don’t force others to be gay. Heterophobia is a thing, and I acknowledge it and understand that it’s not good. But just because some gay people aren’t kind, that doesn’t mean that every gay person is trying to force their ways onto you. I’ve also noticed that people are saying that gay people have “stolen the rainbow”. To be honest, I find this silly. The rainbow is a bunch of colors in the sky. In some settings, it can represent the queer community, but just a rainbow in the sky isn’t gay, it’s just pretty. Some parents assume that if their kids have rainbow clothing or see pride flags, it could influence them to be gay, but that definitely isn’t how it works. You don’t decide your sexuality, and it can’t be influenced by others. It’s like knowing that your kid has seen a vegetable and thinking they’ll turn into a carrot. It’s just not right. Thank you for reading this project. And if you’re homophobic, I hope you’ll listen to this and at least begin to respect the queer community, if not support it, and notice that this is really hurting some people’s feelings. I’m sorry if you were expecting my usual chill content, I’ll probably be posting more art soon. Bye! <3
