I sketched out the basic composition of the scene (and, in this instance, i also tried to get a basic start on facial features/expressions) 2. refined sketch. not a lot to say here apart from that 3. lineart 1.0 (the reason i redid the lineart was because i’d liquified some things and it was overall quite pixelly) 4. redone lineart + color (again, didn’t change too much between these versions of lineart) 5. colored lineart 6. shadows—I usually do two shading layers, and this time I experimented with a bit of airbrush and eraser tool for one of these layers. the two layers allow me to have greater variety in the darkness of my shadows (I layer two shadows over the darkest places, like the left half of his face and her cheek/hair) 7. some light shading~~ i had a hard time pinpointing what colors to use here, but i ended up using a mix of pale blue lighting and pale yellow lighting, i refine the colors using overlay layers later 8. and that time is now! i make the colors match the reference more closely with some overlay layers (i also added some dark red shading on his nose, forehead, and lips, and her face) 9. background colors not a ton to say here. i used the selection tool to make the car’s harsh edges. 10. some shading! (i believe i used overlay for this as well) 11. i blurred the background and then the entire image (using a perspective blur for both blurs—i just thought separating them would be boring lol) 12. texturesss~~ maybe my favorite step lol 13. full, final image! pretty proud of this one :D art: yours truly audio: subliminal by half•alive characters/screencap: x-files
