This character in the Super Mario Expanded Archives is "Alternate" also known as "The Anomaly" to some. As of right now, there is no explanation of how "Alternate" ended up in the bootlegged early prototype of Super Mario Bros Expanded. One theory has it that "Alternate" ended up in the game was by a hack from the bootleggers themselves. However, it seems too supernatural to be a hack. Another theory is that "Alternate" is actually a spirit that haunts the game.
