title is self explanatory! scroll down to read my endless rambling. i didn't proofread so please let me know of any mistakes. the originals: created late 2020 - early 2021. unfortunately i no longer have any original art of them because all of it was on my school ipad. the only paper art of them i have is either unfinished or might not even be them. however, i do remember some key parts of the characters, which are pointed out in the notes of the first drawing. i distinctly remember not liking the names jackie and minty but not being able to think of anything better. to be honest, they were kind of just worse off the hook. they also were dating. minty was definitely the favorite child o_O band name: lionfish rock the redesign: made this on procreate in november 2022. I definitely preferred/prefer green girl's design, but they're both cute. at this point, they transitioned from an off the hook rip off to a vivid bad squad rip off (specifically the vivids). i thought about the backstory a little, but this redesign was more for fun than anything else. band name: still lionfish rock because I couldn't think of anything better. character names: tori and viola. it's a little bit of a pun on pterois volitans, or a type of lionfish. the redesign's redesign: made around april/may 2023. this one actually was posted on scratch not too many projects ago! that more speaks to my lack of posting than the amount of time passed between redesigns. for this one, I really leant into the lionfish thing with the dangly bits and stripes. while the designs still hold up pretty good (I mean they're not that old), they still didn't really have their "thing" yet. I was definitely thinking about their story and music stuff, but the street music thing didn't feel uniquely them, nor did it fit super well with the designs. they also don't look as good from afar or with scratch's famous quality butchering; especially on green girl. the colors just blended together a little too much. i was also told that orange girl looked like frye. character names: tori changed to teri because i realized I was reading pterois wrong and teri was closer to the actual pronunciation. viola is still viola. band name: still lionfish rock. the redesign's redesign's redesign: made very recently. I discovered the genre of citypop and felt it would fit them perfectly! at long last, they've grown into their own band... im so proud of my girls TwT I really love how this art turned out!! I tried to keep the 60-30-10 rule in mind, used colors and a pencil brush for lineart, and used watercolor brushes with pink/magenta on a multiply layer for the shading. i also love the designs! after deciding on the citypop theme, i looked at a ton of pictures of 80s Japanese fashion for inspiration and it really helped. i feel like i was able to pretty well use elements from previous designs here. I would have liked to give green girl her pink dress but kinda forgot... either way if i did that i would want to give orange girl a contrasting color as well (to parallel), but i was already very happy with her design when i went into green girl's. character names: tera and mila. teri felt like it didn't fully fit for whatever reason, so i went with tera instead. she probably has a last name but I'm not sure what it would be. mila was changed to mila because viola/volitans felt like a stretch. (I ended up switching the lionfish species to pterois miles, mostly because ok excuse me firefish devils??? that just sounds so epic lol) she doesn't have a last name for lore reasons. band name: ii was gonna say firefish devils but they aren't cool enough. (/j its just too edgy) if you have any suggestions please let me know!! anyway thats all my rambling. thanks for putting up with me.
