As Pine and her friends were eating lunch, at the same time, Flower from the Hill Roadrunners was hunting. Very badly. Each time she dashed for a rabbit, or squirrel, it just kept on running away! Just then, Flower spotted an unwary mouse munching on some corn. *Mice!* thought Flower, *I actually am a bit lucky today!* she thought happily. She ran towards it and then… it ran away. Flower would not give up this time. She ran after it until she caught up with it, then grabbed it with her talons, catching it. “Yes!” she shouted happily. She ran all the way back to their camp, going into a tunnel. Flower cheered quietly to herself while making her way to the prey storage. She ran to the prey storage. “Flower!” her mom, Petal, smiled at her. “Mom!” Flower says, “I caught a mouse today!” “Really? Your father would be proud,” Petal says. Flower laughs and promises she’ll tell her dad, Vine. As soon as she finds Vine, she tells him that she caught a field mouse. She’s seven years old, and that’s why Vine is proud of her. Most birds don’t get their first catch until they’re nine! …… Later in the day, Flower had been badly scratched when she tripped on a rock while running. Luckily, she had been with a lookout, and the other birds in the lookout had rushed her to the medicine den. She was still conscious, but this was the first time she had been in the medicine den, and all the scents and herbs made her dizzy. Sky, the healer, had bandaged the wound with some leaves and secured it with tree sap. “Can I stay here for the night?” Flower asked since it was getting dark, “I think I look a bit hideous.” “Okay,” replied Sky. “But where?” asked Flower, “On the floor?” “No,” replied Sky, “In the nests left to you.” Flower, who had not noticed the nests until now, thanked Sky, hurried to the nests, and went into a peaceful, quiet slumber.
