The C&O Allegheny's Were built in 1941 For hauling heavy coal in the Mountains they were named after they were very distinctive mostly due to there 6 Axle rear truck and the C&O Hooter whistle mounted on the boiler they served until the 50's Like most big mainline steam some examples would be sold to the VGN for service but they to would eventually see retirement. Two examples were preserved one 1601 Is preserved at the Henry Ford Museum. The other 1604 is at the B&O Railroad Museum in Maryland the chances of either running again are slim due to there size but they are preserved either way.
