In 2000 PS&LN's president wanted a luxury car for him and other executives for traveling between Folsom and Placerville to replace the old Chrysler they had been using since the start of PS&LN. So they went to a used car dealership in Sacramento and bought a 1997 Acura 3.5RL Premium with 31,000 miles on the odometer for $28,000. So they used it for a year. Going up and down US 50. But the president and other executives were getting fed up with constant traffic on the highway and backroads. So they all began brainstorming new routes they could take to avoid traffic and save time. Then one guy stood up and said, "Why don't we just take the tracks?" As crazy as it sounded it did seem like a good idea. Just get a Hi-rail vehicle and if there is too much traffic, go on the rails. However, money was tight and the company couldn't just buy a brand new car or truck equipped with Hi-Rail technology. So long story short the Acura got a new set of Hi-Rail wheels and the new number of "35" based on the 3.5RL badge. The idea worked well, but eventually in 2013 PS&LN got enough money to purchase a brand new F250 super duty with Hi-rail equipment, retiring 35 from regular service. Currently 35 is in MOW service with new decals and it's also used occasionally for emergency crew transport when the F250 is not available. It's the most liked vehicle owned by PS&LN because of it's smooth ride, reliability, and comfortable interior. However the hood is scratched after a small branch fell on it while it was parked next to the Placerville transload facility. Also it gained a truck horn in 2008 after it almost ran straight into a lumber truck at a crossbuck in the middle of the night. The air system for it was put in the trunk which took out half the space from the trunk.
