Instructions

Set number of food items, time 'til new food appears, bite size (eating rate), amount pheromone ants leave. Can ants find new food?

Description

Collective learning results from simple ant rules: If ant finds food it bites & leaves pheromone (red). If ant detects pheromone, it turns very little. If ant doesn't detect pheromone, it turns at a wider angle. Ants only leave pheromone for a limited time after eating. Some pheromone wears out as ants travel over it. Eating food and wearing out pheromone are both negative feedback mechanisms that lead to ants eventually abandoning the march towards food. Based on research I read. I did a version of this model about two years ago, but this one looks better with green grass and bread. See also ants following a line of pheromone: https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/520597948/
