hope you like it! (for @PoemFlower's contest) Nobody sat at a desk. There was someone there, but that someone- was a nobody. It was this 'nobody' who was always overlooked, sat alone at lunch, and cried themself to sleep every night. They were all alone in life. The nobody was a single child, and had alcoholic foster parents. Their parents had died when the nobody was very young, and they had no memories of them. One day at school the nobody saw a person. A somebody. The somebody was cool and pretty, and the moment the nobody saw them, they knew they wanted to be the somebody's friend. But the somebody had other friends and would never hang out with a nobody. Finally, the somebody approached the nobody in the cafeteria, where the nobody was sitting all alone. "Hey. Wanna be friends?" The nobody was ecstatic. "Omigosh, really?" "Duh. Do I look like a liar?" Turns out they were, in fact, a liar. After spending the day with the nobody, the somebody left. They told everybody who would listen, which was everybody, how 'lame-o' the nobody was. The next day, the nobody found that the whole school was snickering at them. They looked at their new 'friend'- who had an ugly smirk on their face. Realizing what had happened, the nobody ran. They ran as far as they could- which happened to be the courtyard. But someone was behind them. "Hey," a voice said. The nobody jumped. "That was pretty sick back there. I mean the bad sort of sick. Not the good kind. Look, I don't even know what I'm saying. But, like, it's ok, ya'know? I mean, it sucks, but... I guess it happens, ya'know? and when it does, you just gotta live through it." The nobody was scared about making a new friend. It hadn't gone very well before. But after a while, even after telling themself not to trust this new person, because no one would ever really, truly want to be this nobody's friend, they found that they slowly started to trust this new person. Suddenly they were much happier, laughing and joking around with their newfound friend. /friend/. The word sounded good. That's all you really need through get through even the toughest of times. A real, kind friend who listens and understands. It's all anybody, even a nobody, needs to make you feel like you're worth being a somebody.
