Instructions

A semi/full-auto rifle from New Zealand to replace the Bren Gun as there were not enough Bren Guns to go around in the Pacific, so Charlton decided to convert Lee-Enfield rifles to semi-auto capability, with the full-auto mode requiring a further field conversion by replacing parts of the weapon. The New Zealand version has an exposed firing mechanism and bipod while the Australian variant looked more like a Lee-Enfield with its wooden forearm and Lee-Enfield buttstock. Both variants could accept either a 30-round Bren Gun magazine or the 10-round magazine that came with the weapon prior to its conversion.

For educational and entertainment purposes only. © 2023 B-18255. All rights reserved. For those of my viewers who think the reload is incorrect, the Charlton did not accept clips to load the magazine, and the magazine, regardless of type, is always detachable and can be swapped for a loaded one in the manner of a modern battle rifle. The weapon may sometimes be classed as a light machine gun, but it is often fired in the manner of a rifle rather than a squad automatic weapon.
