He grew up in Cadiz and was nicknamed 'Archer' as he always used to watch professional archery at his home. He aspired to be an archer but was watched by the team in nearby Jerez as he was consistently performing in the county kart races. Eventually he moved back to his home country of and at the age of 18 was soon called up to the newly created Jaguar Jerez team to drive in their FGPC S3 team.
