Next: https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/898035104/ Previous/First: https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/867250140/ This episode of UIAtWoJ is based around FOLKLORE IN JUBRUNA! Read the description along with the number I may change some stuff, especially names All of these are pieces of folklore in Jubruna, some are real, some are not. 1. Thumbnail 2. Forest Sprites Either tree sprites or stone sprites. One eye = one year of age. They are sometimes hunted for their eyes, which are similar to precious gemstones. As they grow older, they usually grow more limbs. The one with the axe was able to defeat an eye hunter and acquire his axe. He is feared by all who enter the forest, as he protects his family with vigor. (importance to story: little. a few mentions/apperances here and there) 3. Bella Bella is a witch that is said to live in the woods in a small house. When someone enters, they are asked to complete three (seemingly) impossible tasks. If they complete them, you get one free favor/wish from Bella. However, if you fail, Bella will- uhm ...munch you :) And yes, that is her tail (importance to story: relatively none) 4. Lycka/Sorg Lycka was able to complete the three "impossible" tasks given to her by Bella. Her wish was to be the happiest person in the world. Bella warned her that it would come with a great price, but Lycka did not listen. So, Bella granted her wish, and Lycka lived for one year being the happiest in the world. However, for one day out of every year, she would bear all the sadness of the entire world at the same time. Since Lycka's appearance changed during this, she was given the nickname "Sorg" during that day. When the day had passed, Lycka returned to being the most happy person in the world. This cycle repeated until Lycka's death. (importance to story: relatively none) 5. The Leviathan Peoples Long ago, Jubruna and the other continents were populated with a race of large, reptilian people. They were slightly larger than "today's" people of Jubruna (look at the bottom right corner at the two stick people) Their preferred dwellings were large carved rocks. Nicknamed "cheese rocks" by locals. They are usually found in forests thorough Jubruna. (importance to story: "cheese rocks" make a few apperances) 6. Bonestees A bonestee is an evil lost spirit. They can be ridden. They are very popular with evil people because they look so darn cool (joke) (importance to story: quite a bit, they are shown) 7. Olgas An olga is the opposite of a bonestee. They too are lost spirits, but whereas bonestees are evil spirits, olgas are good ones. They do not like to be ridden. They live high in the mountains, flying in the clouds. They are symbols of peace, making them popular art subjects in all cultures, but most of all the Moonlit kingdom, as that is their natural habitat. (importance to story: little, shown a few times) 8. Blubs Blubs live in the doors of the Water of the World. (we will explore the Water of the World in later chapters of Jubruna.) They are there to help people find what they need in the Water. They are required to serve anyone who enters. Their masters are Morker and Mellersta. There are four of them, and they switch every century. The current one is Blubby. They can also shapeshift. From left to right: Skips, Chubs, Blubby, and Bunx. (importance to story: high) 9. Pawsnakes Aptly named pawsnakes have the head of a snake, but their lower half is a paw. They are more agile than you'd think. They are very intelligent and are popular pets with mages. (importance to story: shown a few times) 10. Domav (THIS IS HEAVILY BASED ON ALEXANDER UTKIN'S DOMOVOY.) A domav is a house spirit that helps the owner of the home clean up and other tasks. They are a bit more rare than pawsnakes as pets. (importance to story: little, one character owns one) 11. Blackig Golems Blackig golems are relatively small, living statues. They can spew a poisonous black "ink." They live in another realm and are often fetched by mages for their ink. However, when they are brought into this world they fall asleep, turning into a seemingly ordinary stature. They will not awaken until someone with magical abilities that is NOT the person who brought them into the realm touches them, wherein they will proceed to be a pain in the tail until they are sent back to their realm. Common physical features: They usually resemble a fox or a bat with a pig's snout. Some choose to have nose rings. They all have two tails and no pupils. (importance to story: important) 12. Lava Golems In the middle of the ocean, deep, deep, DEEP under the water, there is a large ridge that runs up and down the world. (does this sound like middle school science yet?) Lava Golems push their way out of the ridge, moving the plates of the world, causing earthquakes and volcanoes to erupt. They then solidify quickly in the cold water. (importance to story: relatively none. I just really like seafloor spreading.) Continued below.

Description

continued description 13. Resa (This one is a little weird because it was a dream, so bear with me. It's folklore, after all.) Resa was a princess/queen of a kingdom that existed long ago in Jubruna. Her kingdom was going to be under attack by an incoming army in the next few weeks, but her father, the king, had died, and her people did not trust her enough to listen to her. She begged them to leave the mountains in which they lived to run from the army, but they wanted to stay in their kingdom. Resa devised a clever solution. She crafted a mask that concealed her identity and went among her people. She gained their trust and became known as "The Masked One," keeping up appearances as the queen. Finally, the army was only a few days away, and "The Masked One" went to make a speech. She removed the mask, showing that she and the queen were the same person. The populace realized that they should listen to their friend, and Resa was able to convince them to leave the mountains. Resa ruled wise and well for the rest of her days. (importance to story: Resa in an inspiration to Skylar and converses with Anno in the Dead Moon) 14. Flits A flit is a small insect-like creature (about the same size as a large beetle). They are famous for their beautiful, semi-transparent wings, which give them the nickname "stained-glass bug." (importance to story: key object is based off their appearance) 15. Morker Morker is the guardian of the dead, the lost, and the night. (more info below) 16. Mellersta Mellersta is the guardian of the living, the found (or the not-lost), and the day. Morker and Mellersta are siblings. Both of them have the power to visit other dimensions, worlds, realms, etc. They visit our world often, mostly because Morker really likes the Beatles. (Mellersta likes Billy Joel better.) 17. The Vargen The Vargen is a formidable beast of legend. It is an ENORMOUS two-headed wolf. It was first summoned by Captain Beatty three hundred years ago to aid him in conquering all of Jubruna. The way the Vargen was stopped has been lost to time. Sigor is attempting to summon it again. Captain Beatty left a list depicting the objects needed to summon the Vargen. (by the way, Captain Beatty was a salamander. Can you guess what his favorite number was?) (importance to story: VERY important)
