Instructions

Being the daughter of basically the queen of the universe isn’t as good as it’s cut out to be. I mean, sure. I have three loyal servants that control life and death, the Eleumkai. And the hundreds of normal servants. Also I control some of my moms, power, the fate, so basically I can kind of control peoples lives. Plus, the buffet line. Sweet. But, for one, it’s not like my mother ever actually has time for me. My dad was mortal, and I’ve never seen him once. When I was born my mother erased all his memory of us. Thanks, mom. And then there’s the ‘Once your mom reaches a thousand years of age, you control the universe now! No pressure at all’. And the stupid meetings. Me, Fate, (also known as my ‘beloved mother’) the Eleumkai, and Life on one side. Then there’s Fen, Livia, the Iakmuele, and Death on the other. It’s supposed to be peaceful, but yikes. You don’t wanna see Death when she’s mad. “Nora!” I saw an Eleumkai standing in the doorway. “Breakfast?” “Rye!” I smiled. Rye was definitely my favorite Eleumkai. She was like my mother, though technically she’s my big sister. My eight-thousand something year old big sister, mind you, born out of chaos at the beginning of creation, but even though I was twelve we were really close. Rye grinned. “I got Cheerios!” She then proceeded to dissolve into mist and probably un-dissolved in the dining room. I mean, one of the dining rooms. Luckily, my diamond pendent, a gift from Rye, could teleport me to her at a moments notice. It’s for emergencies, but normally it’s not used for that. “Take me to Rye.” I whispered. The necklace glowed, then dissolved into pure light. Next thing I knew, I was next to Rye, who was casually inhaling a bowl of Cheerios. Lu and Rey, the other Eleumkai waved to me. They were more like my aunts, but those really cool rich aunts that let you have sugar. Seeing the three Eleumkai triplets together reminded me how similar they looked. They all had rabbit masks and lamplight tails. They had feathery swan wings that flew as fast as the speed of light. Except for the color palette, they were identical. Lu and Rey were eating pancakes. Lu looked like she had dumped a lake of syrup onto hers “Lu.” Rey chided, who had no syrup. “They’re suffocating under the copious amounts of syrup you’ve put on them.” Lu rolled her eyes and elbowed Rey in a playful way. “No syrup no life.” She said. “I don’t know what you have against it.” “It’s too sweet!” Rey complained. The two continued bickering. I looked over at Rye who was done with her Cheerios. “Are you gonna eat?” She asked. “No.” I responded. “Not hungry. I think I’ll watch the sunrise.” “Suit yourself.” Rye dissolved, probably going back to her room to text her friends or play Geometry Dash. When you live in the heavens, with a balcony that lets you see the edge of creation, the sunrise is really something. Creation is like a giant lake floating in the sky, so the edges drip down like a very slow waterfall, The sunrise comes up like wisps of smoke, then solidifying into a beautiful circle of blood red and tiger lily orange. And you can watch it all from a simple ebony balcony.

Description

desc was too long so continue here: “Nora!” Someone called my name. “There you are!” I turned around and saw my best friend, Valerie Anderson Valerie is one of our mortal servants, who had to complete my mother’s trials in order to serve her. She has white wings made out of mist, as all the mortal servants who were accepted do. She has startling amber eyes and long brown hair, complete with a pastel pink hair clip. Her outfit today was jeans with a light blue shirt that named her school, Maple Park School of Literature. She’s 13, and wants to be an author. I’m kind of her editor. “Hey Val.” I said. “I’m watching the sunrise.” Valerie looked nervous. “Your mom wants you.” Well, one upside of being princess of the fate of the literal world is I don’t have a last or middle name, so my mom can’t use my full name. Though she can communicate her ‘you’re in trouble’ just fine. She just sends someone else to tell me, because she’s busy throwing pillows across the room. I waited as the elevator floated to the 500th floor, the whole time listening to bad Taylor Swift covers. It made a soft ding as the doors finally opened and I was greeted to my mothers room. It’s a pretty room, with white marble walls and floors. It has a few plants on the shelves and some pictures of my mom with my father. He’s a handsome man in his thirties, with silky dark hair and a beard. His green eyes seemed to light up the whole room. Of course, he doesn’t even know of my existence. “Nora.” My mother’s voice echoed across the room. I look up at her dark brown eyes and multicolored hair that’s hard to recognize one color from. “Mother.” I dip my head towards her, causing my loose amber hair to fall down my shoulders. “Daughter.” She says meeting my pale blue eyes. “I’m afraid I have something to tell you.” “What is it?” I asked. “You are temporary ruler of this house. I have an emergency to attend.” “What?” I yelped. “An emergency?” “Yes daughter. I cannot share the details, but I must leave. This quest may be able to stabilize fate permanently…or break it.” She looked out the window nervously. “Can I trust you to take care of the world for just a few days?” This was like trusting a three year old with a very sharp knife, but I nodded. “Yes mother.” “Good.” She then dissolved into smoke, leaving me alone in the empty room. On my way back to the elevator, the portrait of my father caught my attention. It looked sharper, like someone had enhanced it, but at the same time accidentally left behind some of the elements of the original picture. His green eyes were still startling, but they looked more menacing. More evil. The stress of this whole situation finally came to me. I passed out cold.
