Instructions

My ship hit the pirates with a resounding clunk. I Looked around frantically for a hiding spot as I heard the hatch open below. We were being boarded. I dove under the dashboard just as two pirates burst through the door. There was a man with dark skin, a beard that could be mistaken for a bush, and an outfit that screamed pirate so badly, I half expected him to start his sentences with "argh". The other person wore a long, loose, black cloak. I couldn't distinguish their gender, because the cloak masked all their features. "Well, well, well." said the first man; his crisp accent dripping with malice. "Looks like we've finally caught you, Delmore." "Wow. You are so observant buckles! have you been practicing?" "My name, is Tecculus," the man growled. "Right, cause that's better," Hanin said rolling his eyes. The man called Tecculus grabbed Hanin's chair and ripped it off the ship. I whimpered. That would cost hundreds to repair! Tecculus and his friend were about to leave, and for one, shinning moment, my plan was working; then the other person spoke. "Wait," they said, as the realization hit them, "there's someone else on this ship." AHHHHHHHHHHHH! I thought. "Hanin wouldn't chain himself to a chair. He's weird, but he's not that dumb." The robed person strode over to my hiding spot and yanked me out into the open, whilst pointing a gun at my neck. "I'm not with him!" I blurted out. I pointed to the bounty hunting badge on my chest, "I was just apprehending him!" "hm, maybe we could hold her for ransom," said Tecculus. "Wait!" I shouted, "I have money! if you let me go, I'll give you 5,000 jadethist!" *code word for contest, Jadethist* "hmmmmm," said the cloaked guy, "fine, but we're keeping him!" "awww you do love me!" Hanin said. "Deal!" I shouted. "You however, clearly don't," Hanin said nodding in my direction. The pirates carried him back to their ship, stocked with jadethist, and I flew away, grateful to be alive. I hummed and searched through my bounty database, looking for a new job. Preferably one that payed 5,000 jadethist. As I was scrolling through the 3d models of people, I saw Hanin again, staring at me with his blue eyes. I felt guilt begin to tug on my stomach. The pirates were probably torturing him right now, or worse. I heard that voice whispering again, and began thinking about that day. The day I'd stopped using guns. I was nine years old. I been skipping home from school, excitedly. Today, Dad would teach me to use a sword. I'd always thought swords were pretty, with their shiny silver steel and bejeweled handles. I'd been dreaming about learning to use one my whole life. But when I got home, Dad did not greet me at the door. Neither did Mom. I pulled out my little handgun, which was required for my schools sharp shooting class, and walked in the door. Cautiously, I crept through the house, gun in hand, until I came to the kitchen. Holding my mom and dad at gunpoint were several bulky looking men, in suits and sunglasses while another man stared at them, hands behind his back, grinning with an evil smile. Spotting me he turned around, and gestured to two of his men. They grabbed me and dragged me over to the scary man. He had long black hair pulled back in a man bun, with dark eyes and pearlescent skin. "Hello, Caci," he said. "How do you know my name?" I asked, attempting to stay calm. "Oh, Caci, I know all about you. I know you're turning ten in exactly six months and two days, I know you're very good at shooting that gun, I know this is your house, and that your parents," he turned to my mom and dad, "are from the geotechian tribe and the pearlian tribe. Two tribes that should not be intermixing." "What are you talking about, why are you hurting my parents?" "Oh, I'm not the one who's going to hurt them." The man replied, "You are." "I would never hurt my family!" I cried. "I'm giving you a choice, Caci, you can kill your father, or your mother, and if you don't shoot them," he raised a gun to my chest. "I'll shoot you." "NO!" my parents shouted in unison. "Take your pick," he said. "Take me!" my father cried. "No, Caci kill me!" Mom screamed. I raised the gun, "I love you guys. I'm so sorry," I said. "We love you too," whispered mom. "No matter what," Dad added. I pulled the trigger. The man stumbled backward, blood dripping from his chest. The guards ran to help him and I ran. "I WILL GET YOU WILLOW!" screamed the man. "YOU WILL PAY FOR THIS, AND SO WILL YOUR PARENTS!" The experience had traumatized me so badly, I'd refused to touch a gun again. Was I really going to leave another person for dead? "He's a thief!" I screamed to no one. "He brought this on himself!" Did he though? he'd never killed anyone, so why did he deserve to die? Plus, his bounty was worth a fortune. I sighed, and turned the ship around. I was going to get that idiot back.
