Chapter 1 Alone It all began with a question. And unfortunately, or perhaps fortunately, questions lead to answers. I am a black rouge with scratches on my ears, nose, and neck. My name is Moon. And, until a moon ago, I lived alone, not including my coven. “The clans- how they fret in worry, seeing our brethren. Kin is not enough- I would be part of the clans now if it wasn’t for the incident. If only.” I whispered in our den. “The clans are fox-dung! You know, despite my injuries, my hearing stays unscathed. We do not speak of the clans in this coven, my child.” hissed Desert, a blinded sphynx, yet you could hardly tell because of the gashes and scars that pelted their body. I could sense they got weaker each day, yet their lip- and the fight still left in Desert told me otherwise. The kits that my littermate, Pandora, had were still here. Despite the dangers that reeked around our den, I had taken quite a liking to them, and I even called them names; New, Green, Bare, and Fall. Desert and her best friend, Rattle, did not approve of me for this, saying that kits are as good as mice- inferior. Nobody would think that in Riverclan. Only my coven, in fact- would think that the next generation is mouse-dung. I layed down my head, looking wistfully towards the forest. The words echo in my mind, “If only, if only, if only.” I may be missing Riverclan, but the one thing I am trying to shut out is a gentle hissing in my ears. I let out a small growl.
