In 2067, the newly formed dictatorship government of the National Republic of China violates the Treaty of Hainan concerning the South China Sea. They do so by destroying ships and constructing artificial islands for military use. In response, the Socialist Republic of Vietnam declares war on China. The Philippines, Indonesia, and Brunei also join in the conflict, but Vietnam is swiftly overwhelmed by the Chinese forces and must defend its capital alone.
