sry for the low quality! ^^" ik chapter 8 has been taking an excruciatingly long time for me to finish (it's been over a month! :00), so i decided to share a little sneak peek :)) but i've gotten 2 and a half pages out of 6 done so far! im still fleshing out the small details, so some things (like the dialogue) might change a bit, but here's what i have so far on the first few pages of chpt 8 :)) :sparkles: flashback time! :> -------- [page 43] “Wasn’t that…” Callie’s voice trailed off for a moment as the temperature of the studio almost seemed to drop, “Y’know, the year when-” Faith cut in, her voice dull and lined with barely concealed rage. “Yep.” Seven years ago… “Mom…” Faith’s voice trailed through the kitchen, the only sound in the house other than her voice being her mother’s rhythmic chopping of apples. It was Faith and Embry’s seventh birthday and they were having a party, everyone laughing and running around their huge, green backyard. Everyone but them. “Do we really have to do this? Today?” [page 44] Embry, her twin brother mumbled from where he was sitting across the counter on a stool that was twice his height, “Yeah, what’s the point now that Dad-” “Stop complaining.” Their mother paused her apple chopping to frown disapprovingly at her children. “I already told you! We’ve invited your classmates to this party. Your party. They’re all out in the backyard, playing and waiting for you two.” She turned back to the cutting board, balloons with every color of the rainbow visible over her shoulder through the kitchen window. “They’ve all taken time out of their day to come here today - and they brought you both presents! You should be grateful.” Wordlessly, the twins exchanged a look. [page 45] Their mother sighed. “You two should be out there right now, enjoying it all. I never got extravagant birthday parties when I was a kid. Besides, it’s your birthday!” She gathered up the apple slices and dumped them in a large bowl. “It’s your special day, both of you.” “If today is so special, why hasn’t Dad come back yet?” Faith spoke up, her cerulean eyes stormy, covered up with a mess of curly brown hair. Her brother didn’t say a word, but visibly flinched at her words. The kitchen fell silent. Clearing her throat, their mother smiled a bit too cheerily. “Honey, I’ve told you this already, haven’t I? Your father hasn’t left. He’s just…on a trip for work. He’ll come back, don’t worry, pumpkin.” Embry adjusted the party hat on his nest of curly hair uncomfortably while Faith glowered at the marble counter silently. Their mother sighed again. Whisking her children onto their feet, she placed the bowl of apple slices in Embry’s arms and leaned down to look both of them in the eyes. “He will come back.” She said, wearing another one of her all-too-wide smiles that had been practically plastered onto her lips ever since Embry and Faith’s father had disappeared out the door one morning - and hadn’t come back since. It had been three weeks. [page 46??] “He will come back,” she repeated and continued, “and when he does, he’ll be sad that you two spent your birthday unhappy because of him.” Their mother brushed a strand of hair away from Faith’s eye, making the already frowning little girl’s expression grow even darker. “So I want you both to put on a smile, go out there, and have fun with your friends, okay? Your father will be back before you know it.” She waved them out of the kitchen and out the backdoor, practically slamming the door shut behind them. aaand that's all ill share for now! ^w^ (yes, i do write down the scripts before i turn them into actual comic panels. i've found that it's actually rlly helpful, especially if you start feeling overwhelmed, stressed, or stuck :)) <3 Railin
