Entry for Summer Tides: Name: Cove Gender: Female Age: 15 Personality: laid-back, calm, quiet, usually seems to know the right thing to do. Backstory: Cove grew through her younger childhood with a loving family and older brother. She was always the quiet peaceful one. When Cove least expected it, however, that peaceful loving home and family was torn away from her; It was a warm summer evening. The stars were jut appearing in the sky and clouds drifted over the gentle waves. Cove with her older brother, Arroyo, sat on the soft sandy beach, watching the peaceful ocean. Cove’s 11’th birthday had just passed a few days. Arroyo suddenly sat up, disturbing the dragonflies that had been buzzing around them. Cove sat up as well. “Did you hear that?” Arroyo asked. Cove shook her head no, now worried. Arroyo stood and looked behind him, towards their village, which sat just beyond the beach. Suddenly a huge spire of flame shot into the sky, from where the villlage sat over the ridge of a sand dune. Arroyo was the irate one up and asking towards the flames, Cove on his heels, anticipation and grief gripping her heart. They reached it too late. As they rounded the bend to see a clear shot of the village, they saw chaos. Screaming dragons, the houses burning, sending pillars of smoke into the sky. Cove was frozen by fear, and they only made it to their house because of Arroyo’s confidence. Their house was a pile of ash and flame, their father inside helpless, and their mother, injured by a burn, standing outside and weeping. That was the last Cove saw of her quiet beach home, and her father. They left their previous home, never figuring out what started the fire, and traveled mostly as nomads for a while, before settling with hesitance down in a tiny lakeside town, setting their hut back a ways from the town. Cove never felt complete after that day, but tried her hardest to heal the wound her fathers death left, and move on. She also was impressed by Arroyo’s courage that night, and looked (and still does) up to him greatly, wishing she could be that strong someday.
