In case you missed them: https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/873577550 Now that I have characters to work with, I decided I needed to define what artstyle the game will be in. In MSM, I thought it was fine having each character having its own unique artstyle, but here in SE I wanted to be more consistent. Slide-by-slide explanation: (1) I started out by drawing some faces in a few styles, to see what I could come up with. I didn't like anything I came up with. (2) I decided to switch over to drawing on paper (which I am significantly better at) and made a sample character that I could try to unique-ify. I drew all sorts of faces to see what I liked. My main focus was getting the eyes just right - mostly making them not too cartoony and making them defined. I found something I liked, where the eyes are basically circles but with flat edges on the sides, and the pupils are tall ovals. Then, I wanted to come up with ways to draw a shirt (not difficult at all) and then hands. Once I was satisfied, I put everything together, yielding the final product on the bottom left. (3) Now that I figured out what I wanted, I set out to draw the same character in a vector format. The hardest part of this was the hands, trying to get the curves just right. I finally put it together, with the whole thing on the right. (4) Now that I had established everything, it was time to apply my newfound artstyle - starting with Huckleberry. I started off by doing it by memory, which looked a bit weird. Then, I brought in the original Huckleberry vector and adjusted the new one (matching the colors, resizing the limbs). Finally, I got his SE-exclusive wizard hat, slightly adjusted it, and put it on him. It's a bit weird seeing Huckleberry not in his usual style, but I think I like how this turned out. Let me know what you think! Feedback is very much appreciated. This whole art thing is actually quite difficult so any tips or thoughts are certainly welcome. Next devlog should hopefully involve screenshots from the actual game and not just concepts. Who knows though, most of my attention is on MSM at the moment. We'll see what happens.
