In 1992, Universal Kids launched as a block on NBC named TNBC. It focused on teen-oriented programming. In 2006, 2 years after the NBCUniversal merger, Ion Media and NBC announced a new block replacing TNBC named Qubo on NBC. It aired Qubo programming like 3,2,1, Penguins! and Jacob Two-Two. It was also known as Qubo En Español on Telemundo. In 2009, PBS Kids Sprout was divested and was acquired by NBCUniversal itself, replacing Qubo on NBC and Qubo En Español. In 2017, Sprout was spun off from NBC and was replaced by Universal Kids, and was redesigned in 2019.
