Hello! I’m back from a long break to try something different from what I usually do in art. I’ve wanted to try an art challenge like MerMay for so long, but I always seem to miss them. Now that school is out, I felt like I could try a few of the prompts and not all of theme to make MerMay a little more manageable for me. I also made all of the characters rats because it brings me joy :) 1. (#6: Mushroom) I did some research and found that there are in fact mushrooms that grow underwater. To quote Fishbio, “ Fish are not the only gilled residents inhabiting the crystal clear waters of Oregon’s Rogue River. A recently discovered species of mushroom, Psathyrella aquatica, has been described as the only aquatic gilled fungus. The discovery is traced back to 2005, when researchers from Southern Oregon University, stumbled upon the mushrooms in the Rogue River by chance” I based the drawing off of the pictures of the mushrooms that I found 2. Mushroom reference 3. (#8: Dystopian) 4. (#10: Celestial) 5. (#13: Old Money) I had to do some research for this one I couldn’t find much of a definition “ Neutral colours, monochromatic outfits, tailored fits and minimalist accessories are the foundation of the style“ I tried my best to incorporate the prompt. 6. (#18: Deep Sea) I was inspired by the fanfin anglerfish for this one. I think it turned out pretty cool! 7. (#25: Food) The food I was inspired by was strawberry mochi 8. (#29: Barbie) This theme makes sense for 2023 because of the new movie coming out. I like working with bright colors, so this was a fun prompt to draw.
