On June 6, 1944, soldiers, sailors and airmen from 12 different nations took a stand against tyranny and landed on the beaches of Normandy, France. The Allies had 13,000 aircraft, including 2,000 C-47s, 6,000 ships, including 3,000 landing craft, 20,000 land vehicles, including 185 tanks, and 156,000 soldiers, including 15,500 paratroopers. They had to face 40,000 German soldiers and dodge 200,000 beach obstacles in their bloody push inland. More than 9,000 Allied men were killed or wounded on that first day, 2,400 on Omaha Beach alone. They fought for freedom, for liberty in the face of an evil empire, and because of their sacrifices, we live in a free world, a world where we can be whatever we want, where we are free. Remember that today. Do not take their sacrifices for granted.
RIP to those who gave their lives on that deadly day. You are not forgotten.
