Cat out of the bag: This really means to spoil a surprise. Someone spoiled the surprise birthday for someone, and the host walked in asking who spoiled it When the guests move back, someone actually RELEASED the cat from a paper bag. Piece of cake: This means something was easy, but when the test was a piece of cake, it literally WAS a piece of cake. Actual, edible, vanilla, pink icing cake.
